Senior R&D Engineer

  • Researching and developing novel machine learning algorithms related to topics in object detection, classification, re-identification, few-shot or zero-shot learning and many more.

  • Creating solutions for large-scale customer needs related to tasks relevant for the DoD, AFRL, NGA, and other such bodies.

Machine Learning Intern

  • Conducted research as part of the Machine Learning team within the Mobility & Services Group of Aptiv (formerly nuTonomy).

  • Designed a single-shot instance segmentation framework with the director of machine learning for fast instance-aware semantic segmentation to be used in the autonomous driving platform.

  • Implemented code in PyTorch and conducted experiments on MS COCO. Achieved strong baseline results.

  • Presented research from summer as well as my previous work in object detection and capsule networks to machine learning team.

  • Further experiments being performed, and I will update this with a publication in the future when we are ready to share this work.

Sr. Tech. Specialist (ML Intern)​

  • Conducted cutting-edge research within the Special Projects Group of the Advanced Research Division.

  • Directly worked on four projects, consulted on many more.

    • Object detection, time-series prediction, radio modulation detection, 3D scene understanding, multi-agent planning, etc.

    • Most successful of these published at CVPR 2018 and helped to integrate my code into a multi billion dollar platform.

  • Gave invited research talks at Lockheed facilities in CA, CO, & FL.

  • Independently created & delivered a weekly tech. talk series offered to the 9,000+ Space Systems engineers.

    • Maxed out the Skype system at over 200+ attendees.

Research Manager

  • HiPerCiC (High-Performance Computing in Context).

  • Managed three-member research team of summer undergraduate researchers. Responsible for:

    • Managing project completion timelines

    • Reporting progress to supervising professor

    • Guiding design choices (database structure, UI/UX).

    • Coordinating updates & feedback with active users & admins.

  • Researched relevant technologies in web-app development:

    • GIS, 3D modeling, database systems and more.

  • All research projects related to the digital humanities and were involved directly in professors' scholarly research.

  • Lead development of two web-apps, supervised several others.

    • Most successful app lead to award-winning book publication “Reconstruction in Alabama: From Civil War to Redemption in the Cotton South” by Mike Fitzgerald, with acknowledgement to my research for contributing the new data visualizations.

  • Presented research (one oral, one poster)​ at Mid-States Consortium Undergraduate Research Symposium.

  • Co-taught undergraduate course on creating HiPerCiC apps:

    • Developed all course materials (substitute for textbook).​

Lead Developer

  • HiPerCiC (High-Performance Computing in Context).

  • Lead development of an alumni relations tracking web-app.

    • Schedules interviews between all college alumni and ​50 student interviewers with a distance-based matching algorithm.

    • Interviewers can track progress of each interview, manage and schedule new interviews, find local coffee shops and restaurants to conduct the interviews, and record alumnus answers.

    • Admin panel can categorize and search alumni's most important issues (positive and negative), allow alumni relations office to respond to any alumnus concerns and track their resolution, and manage interviewer progress and payments.

  • Provided technical demo/training for interviewers to navigate app.​

  • Managed client needs through multiple meetings and demos during app development and delivery.

  • Managed user needs, questions, and feedback during production.

  • Integrated new features and hotfixes while in production.

Software Engineer

  • Designed and built software program with a team to parse any C++ program and output a memory diagram for the Software Design course offered through St. Olaf.

  • Upon completion of the course, one other team member and I were hired to upgrade, extended, and refactor the program to encompass more of C++ functionality.

  • My primary focus on the project was the abstract representation of a memory diagram in C++ and the conversion of that to Scheme, as that was the desired output format for uploading to our wiki.

Production Unit Leader

  • Directly supervised 30+ people across 7 departments.

  • Managed highly functioning work teams in a fast-paced, high-volume, unionized manufacturing environment.

  • Coordinated daily team activities to achieve business metrics while implementing World Class Manufacturing tools and Chrysler Leadership Principles.

  • Analyzed production metrics to improve cost-effectiveness.

Engineering Intern

  • Review design plans to discover and resolve conflicts.

  • Assemble machines in excesses of $500,000 designed to automate certain processes in original equipment manufacturing environment. 

  • Flew to customer site to install machinery in clean room environment.

  • Aligned machines' to within .001 degrees using high-precision levels and laser alignment systems, build computer and camera systems, and wired electrical and pneumatic systems.

  • Made expert for a line of machines, any and all questions come through me and was put in charge of training in new employees.

  • Instruct students in skating and hockey techniques for youth hockey camps and individual and semi-private lessons.
